Today at approximately 11:37 AM, Champaign Police Officers received a report of a bank robbery occurring at the Central Illinois bank located at 302 W. Springfield Avenue. Based on the information provided by witnesses, police detained one suspect in connection with the robbery.
The suspect, Kaleb M. Shields, 26 years of age, with a last known address in Urbana, Illinois, was located in a back yard of a residence in the 200 block of East Hill Street, Champaign, Illinois, at approximately 11: 45 AM.
Witnesses report that a man entered the bank and handed the teller a note, which demanded money. The female teller then handed the suspect an undisclosed amount of cash. Witnesses also report that the suspect acted as if he had a gun, though one was never actually displayed. No injuries were reported by the seven employees or two patrons who were in the bank at the time.
The suspect left the bank and was last seeing walking toward Springfield Avenue. He was described as a White male, with a slim build, and wearing an orange or red-colored t-shirt and blue jeans.
