Shooting Suspects Arrested

The suspects, sought in connection with the shooting that occurred in the 1100 block of Mimosa, on last Friday, were arrested. Yesterday, the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force located QWANTRELL L. AYRES and KEVIN I. AKINS at a hotel in Indianapolis, Indiana, where both had been staying.

QWANTRELL L. AYRES and KEVIN I. AKINS, of Champaign, were arrested on warrants for the offense of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm in connection with the shooting. A bond has been set at $1,000,000.00 for each of them.

“This investigation is not over. Our officers are thoroughly processing the information gathered in these cases and will continue to search for the remaining persons involved in these shooting incidents,” says Police Chief Anthony Cobb. “Our residents and visitors deserve closure and have a right to feel safe in their neighborhoods. Hopefully, this spree has ended and more people will call police or Crime Stoppers with information,” he added.

Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1000 for information leading to an arrest.
