Habitat for Humanity of Champaign County held an open house for the upcoming summer builds on Thursday, May 2 at the Habitat ReStore due to inclement weather. The event was a great success with approximately 75 people in attendance to provide support for the four new homes and their families. Two of the homes will be built in Champaign and two will be built in Urbana.
Neighborhood Programs Manager Kerri Spear spoke about the partnership the City enjoys with Habitat for Humanity to encourage healthy people, healthy neighborhoods, and a healthy community as a great place to live, work and play. The homes in Champaign are being built for the Ebonie Williams and Mary Belford families. Ms. Williams’s home will be the 67th home for Habitat and is being built in partnership with Windsor Road Christian Church on a lot donated by the City of Champaign on Louisiana Avenue. Ms. Belford’s home will be the 68th home for Habitat and is being built in partnership with Employment for Education System #330 on a Williamsburg Drive lot (in Garden Hills) donated by the City.
