The Champaign Police Department sponsored eight Champaign citizens attendance at the Champaign County Citizen Police Academy conducted April 11-June 13, 2013. The Citizen Police Academy is an educational and informative program that provides citizens the opportunity to learn about the issues that face law enforcement in Champaign County.
The weekly classes are held at the Police Training Institute and are conducted by Police officers and trainers from the participating agencies. Among the topics of instruction are Crime Scene Investigation, Firearms Orientation, the Judicial System, DUI Enforcement, Traffic Stops, K-9 and SWAT Demos. Each participant also rides along with an officer of the agency sponsoring them.
The goals of the academy are to provide stronger citizen/police relationships, enhance lines of communication and the reduction of crime in our community.
