On December 28, 2012 at 9:40 PM, officers were sent to the Hardee’s restaurant located at 1806 W. Bradley after being notified of an armed robbery in progress. Champaign Police Officer Carroll arrived at the business quickly and observed two suspects fleeing. Both suspects continued to run east from the business after observing Officer Carroll arriving in his police vehicle.
Officer Carroll pursued the suspects into a parking lot at a nearby gas station. While chasing the suspects, three citizens aided Officer Carroll by grabbing onto one of the suspects. Carroll was then able to attempt to arrest the suspect. However, the the suspect continued to resist his efforts. While struggling with the suspect, Officer Carroll observed a hand-gun in the waist-line of the suspect’s pants. As Carroll continued his attempts to arrest the suspect, a Parkland College Police Officer arrived and aided him in the completion of the arrest.
The suspect arrested was identified as being:
Larry D. Pettigrew
(23 years of age)
Champaign, Illinois
The hand-gun in the suspect’s waist-line was recovered by the officers. No shots were fired inside the business or while the officers completed the arrest of the suspect. Additionally, no injuries were reported to any of the involved parties. The second suspect was not apprehended and remains at large.
