Despite some rain and challenging concrete work, the City Building streetscape project is still on schedule. Last week, the contractor completed the last of the planter box walls near the northwest corner of the building. It took a lot of effort and some creative workmanship to construct the uniquely shaped boxes. Now that the boxes are in place, the area will be backfilled and prepared for concrete pavement. Once the pavement is poured, only about 18 inches of the boxes will be visible. The area around the boxes will be the first concrete pour in which the snow melt system will be included. Weather permitting, that pour could happen as early as next week.
The contractor has also been working to replace the Chester Street crosswalk, just north of the City Building. One half of the crosswalk has been removed and replaced. In addition, the concrete curb and gutter in that same area should be poured this week. Soon, that entire northwest portion will be completed and the contractor will move operations to the east end of the building.
We appreciate the patience of pedestrians as they walk around the construction area and apologize for any inconvenience that it may be causing. Please continue to be cautious and follow traffic control signs.
This project is expected to be completed by December 14, 2012.
