The Human Resource and Fire Departments continue the 2012 Fire Fighter recruitment eligibility list process. Recruitment efforts for 2012 successfully yielded 115 total applications. The number of minority and female applicants met City Affirmative Action goals, which are based on expected availability of minority and female applicants for the job.
Qualified applicants are now invited to proceed to the next step of the selection process, which is the Written Exam. The Fire and HR departments hosted an optional study session for the Written Exam on Wednesday, September 26. The study session included a practice exam and the opportunity for applicants to ask questions and receive information on the test format and content. Both HR and Fire personnel were available to respond to questions; 17 applicants attended the event.
After the Written Exam, the next step is an Oral Interview with a panel designated by the Board of Police and Fire Commissioners. Scores from the written exam and oral interviews will be combined to establish an initial eligibility list. Candidates can then apply for preference points for military service, fire certification, and/or education. A final eligibility list will then be evaluated by the Board of Police and Fire Commissioners in February 2013. Once the eligibility list has been approved, Fire Fighters may be selected from the list as vacancies occur during the next two years.
