The 2012 National Night Out Fun Day Celebration was held at the Bone Yard Creek Second Street Reach on Saturday, September 8. The event included participation by students from Lincolns Challenge Academy who presented the colors and sang the National Anthem. After the presentation of the colors, Councilmember Karen Foster kicked off the event with the reading of the National Night Out proclamation. Additional event attractions included safety demonstrations and vendor information by local law enforcement agencies and community resource providers, a touch a truck demonstration, kids activity corner, food served by the Salvation Army, and free popcorn provided by the Champaign Historical Society. The Gavin Stolte Project capped off the day’s activities with a live music concert. The event was attended by approximately 300 people throughout the day and was especially well received and attended by the residents of the Skelton building, a senior high-rise owned by the Housing Authority of Champaign County.
