On Thursday, September 13, the Campus Area Transportation Committee will host the 5th Annual “Light the Night” event. At “Light the Night” volunteers will give away over 800 bike light sets to bicyclists for free. The aim of the bike light giveaway is to educate bicyclists on the need to use bike lights when riding in the dark. Volunteers from many organizations will have teams ready to install the bike lights on the bike so that bicyclists can begin using them right away.
This event is funded and organized by many organizations and agencies including: City of Champaign, City of Urbana, CU Mass Transit District, University of Illinois, Champaign Cycle, CU Bike Project, CU Safe Routes to School Project and Planet Bike. Bike lights sets will be given outs at two locations from 4-8 pm: Alma Mater (near Wright and Green) and ISR (near Lincoln and Illinois).
