On Wednesday, June 27, the City along with Integrys Energy Services will mail approximately 10,000 opt-in letters for the Municipal Electric Aggregation (MEA) program. These letters are being sent to the residents and small commercial business (using less than 15,000 kwh per year) who are not eligible for automatic enrollment in the MEA program because they fall under one of the following categories: 1) they have selected an alternate retail electric supplier; 2) they are enrolled in an Ameren hourly pricing program; or 3) they have the Ameren electric space heat rate. Since they are not currently on the Ameren default rate, it is uncertain if they will save on electricity supply costs by participating in the City’s program. These customers are encouraged to compare their costs under the City’s program versus their current rate prior to making an enrollment decision. The enrollment deadline is July 6 and may be done by contacting Integrys Energy Services by phone at 888-491-1362 or online at www.integrysenergy.com/optintochampaign.
City staff expects to continue to field inquiries from residents and businesses about both the opt-in and opt-out processes. As of June 22, approximately 201 total calls had been received by the City and Integrys with the most frequently asked questions focusing on 1) rate inquiries; 2) billing concerns; and 3) contract questions.
