The Garden Hills Resource Day provided approximately 50 families of Unit 4 children free physicals and dental screenings in addition to resource tables from various vendors, including the City of Champaign Fire Prevention Division and Fire Station Five firefighters, Police, Public Works, and Neighborhood Services Departments. The City’s CommUnity Matters and Garden Hills Neighborhood Association team members were also available to answer questions about the neighborhood and upcoming programs. The event was open to Garden Hills families from 9-11 am and then all Unit 4 families from 11 am-2 pm. The event was organized by Sheri Williamson as a concerned citizen wanting to do more for the community and to ensure families are aware of local resources. An interpreter was available to help Latino families ask/answer questions with the vendors.
Event coordinator, Sheri Williamson sent a thank-you note stating in part, “Having organizations there like yours are what make the resource day work. Families were appreciative of having so many resources available in one place. We were able to serve about 50 families and 100 people. Physicals, dental exams, and immunizations were also given to several families. For a first time event I feel it was successful.”
