Early Tuesday morning an overstuffed chair in the basement at Phi Kappa Psi at 911 Fourth St. caught on fire. The heat caused a sprinkler head to open and the fire was extinguished within a minute. The water flow switch sent an alarm throughout the building and alerted Champaign Fire. Water damage was minimal as there a concrete floor with a drain nearby. Chief Forsman declared, “Lives were saved because the City of Champaign made the wise decision to require sprinkler systems in these occupancies.”
