On Monday, March 12, 2012 a public meeting was held in the Dr. Howard neighborhood to learn about the proposed Safe Routes to School Plan for the elementary school. The meeting began at 6 p.m. with a short presentation by the Champaign County Regional Plan Commission (CCRPC). Approximately 17 neighborhood residents attended the meeting. Following the presentation neighbors and staff remained for additional questions and discussion. The neighborhood repeatedly complimented the Dr. Howard principal and staff for being a good, friendly and responsive neighbor over the many years.
The draft plan is available for public review on the CCRPC website. The Plan is in the stage of a 30 day public comment period from April 4 to May 4. If there are any comments please contact Gabe Lewis, CCRPC, at [email protected] or by phone at 328-3313.
The plan is tentatively scheduled for presentation at the June 12, 2012 City Council Study Session Meeting. The meeting date for Unit 4 School Board approval has not yet been determined. City staff would like to schedule this item for School Board review and approval in June or July 2012.
