On Sunday, April 1, 2012, the Champaign Fire Department began providing fire services for the unincorporated areas south and west of the City and north of the Champaign/Savoy growth boundary line. This transition involved a substantial amount of work at the Fire Department and METCAD to change the recommended responses for more than 500 residential properties in the area. Fire Department personnel from Stations 2, 4 and 6 have spent time making sure that they are familiar with the additional streets and fire hydrant locations. Contracts for services with the majority of properties in the area have been executed. Those properties without a contract will be billed at a substantially higher rate should they need services.
