Police Hold SWAT Training: November 9 & November 13-17 in Bristol Park

The Champaign Police Department Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team will be holding training exercises in the Bristol Park Neighborhood on November 9 and November 13 – 17, 2017. Trainings will take place in the northeast corner of the neighborhood during the afternoon hours of 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM.

Citizens can expect to see an increased police presence in the area; as well, nearby residents and businesses are advised that training devices may on occasion produce noise that is loud in nature. As with any emergency, the general public is asked to stay clear from the training site to aid officers in providing adequate response.

The upcoming trainings are part of the ongoing, approximately 200 hours of specialized training that the SWAT Team, as well as other specialized units within the Department, receive on an annual basis. Training locations are identified by space availability, and routine exercises help to ensure that response and service standards are provided to the community at the highest level possible.

Door-to-door canvassing is being provided to area residents and businesses, and signage will be clearly posted around the training perimeter, while training is active.

Questions regarding the upcoming exercises may be directed to SWAT Commander, Deputy Chief Joseph Gallo at [email protected] or by phone at 217.403.6926.
