NSD and Agencies work together to Relocate Bristol Resident
A Bristol Place tenant was successfully relocated after a five-bedroom house was condemned due to numerous life safety code violations.  The tenant has five children and was in need of emergency housing after the house was condemned.  Champaign County Regional Planning Commission, Emergency Family Shelter, CU Early Learning and NSD staff worked together to find immediate shelter for the tenant and her children at the Emergency Family Shelter.  The tenant met with staff and case managers weekly to find a permanent solution to her housing needs.  The coordinated efforts paid off, the tenant received a Housing Choice Voucher from the Housing Authority of Champaign County and the tenant moved into a 4 bedroom home.  However, when the old home was condemned the locks were changed and the tenant was not allowed to retrieve any of their belongings from the house therefore, the family did not have any furniture, or household items.  NSD staff contacted Habitat for Humanity and they were able to donate mattresses, couch, chairs, sheets and other household items to the family.  The coordinated efforts of all of the agencies involved made this a successful relocation for the family.
