Police Investigate Shooting Incident – 700 Block of N. Neil Street

This morning, at approximately 1:21 AM, Champaign Police responded to the 700 Block of N. Neil Street, after receiving multiple reports of shots fired.  Within minutes, it was also learned that a 23-year-old Urbana man was transported to the hospital for two non-life threatening gunshot wounds.

Upon arrival to the scene, police found multiple shell casings that suggests an exchange of gunfire occurred.  Police are seeking to speak with anyone who may have been in this area at the time of the shooting.  Preliminary findings suggest that three vehicles were involved in the gunfire exchange, including a:

  • Light-colored sedan that had been east on Vine Street just prior to the shooting and is suspected of opening fire
  • Dark-colored Dodge Charger that followed the above mentioned vehicle to the shooting location and is suspected of opening fire
  •  Light-colored Sedan with heavy damage to the passenger side and rear bumper that is suspected of returning fire to the above mentioned vehicles
