2012 Neighborhood Cleanup

The Neighborhood Services Department recently completed the Annual Neighborhood Cleanup. The event was held on the weekends of September 15th and September 22nd.

Residents in low to moderate income neighborhoods were provided with vouchers that they could use to dispose of unwanted household items free of charge at the local Allied Waste transfer station. A total of 235 vouchers were used to dispose of 41.29 tons of material. The Public Works Department assisted 82 households of elderly and handicapped residents by collecting their materials curbside during the weeks of September 17 and September 24. The event was also augmented by neighborhood volunteers who conducted litter abatement efforts in the Garden Hills and Beardsley Park Neighborhoods.

The Neighborhood Cleanup event continues to be a favorite among community members in the impacted neighborhoods, and a welcome relief for those in our community who cannot afford the cost associated with utilizing the transfer station to dispose of unwanted household items and it also helps NSD reduce illegal dumping and assist us to maintain cleaner neighborhoods.
