City Cable Channel Now Streaming Live on the Web

Viewers of Champaign Government Television (CGTV) can now watch City of Champaign programming streamed live on the Internet, including live coverage of City meetings. Viewers can view the live stream by visiting the City of Champaign’s website at www.ci.champaign.il.us/cgtv and clicking on the “Live Stream” icon. Archived video files are also available at this same website.

Jeff Hamilton, Telecommunications/AV Technician said, “CGTV has been televising City Council, Board, and Commission meetings for years, but in the past this programming was only available to local cable television subscribers. Now anyone with access to a high-speed Internet connection can watch our award-winning programming and stay informed about the City of Champaign.”

All televised City meetings are also available as video-on-demand programs for viewers to watch at their convenience. Previously only City Council meetings were archived or available to watch on the web. Now, in addition to the City Council, all televised Board and Commission meetings are archived and available to watch whenever it is most convenient to the viewer. City Council meetings will continue to be bookmarked by agenda item so that viewers can quickly find and watch the section of the meeting of interest to them. A link to Council reports will also be embedded into the video player, making it easy for viewers to see everything in one place.

Jeff Hamilton reports, “Web streaming of City programming is a service that our residents have been asking for, and the City is responding to meet those needs. The City of Champaign continues to believe in an open and transparent government, and this is just another way in which we’re giving more people access to the deliberations of their local government.”

CGTV programming will also continue to be available to Comcast cable viewers on channel 5 and AT&T U-verse customers on channel 99.
