Shooting Investigation – 1500 Block of North Prospect Avenue

On Dec. 31, 2020, at approximately 5:27 p.m., Champaign Police responded to a local hospital for the report of a shooting victim. Upon arrival, officers learned an 18-year-old male arrived at the hospital by personal transport with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the hand.

The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was exiting a local business in the 1500 block of North Prospect Avenue when the suspect approached and discharged a firearm, striking the victim. Police are currently processing the crime scene and interviewing possible witnesses. No arrests have been made at this time.

The investigation remains underway, and future updates may be provided as they become available.
