Call for Nominations Now Open to Honor the Legacy of Dr. King

As we prepare to honor the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we are excited to announce a new collaboration between the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Countywide Committee and the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Advocacy for Justice Committee, Inc. The combined celebration will be held virtually on January 17, 2021, at 5:00 p.m. via the Zoom platform. More information to come.

As part of this new collaboration, the MLK Countywide community awards are now included as part of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Advocacy for Justice Committee scholarship recognition and overall ceremony. Nominations are now being accepted to recognize those individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to our community and embody the principles of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. To submit a nomination, visit mlkcelebration.org. The nomination deadline is November 30, 2020.

For the past 30+ years, the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Advocacy for Justice Committee has celebrated the achievements of area youth while celebrating the historic role and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. For the last two decades the MLK Countywide committee has highlighted the work of individuals and organizations to continue reaching the dream of Dr. King while providing our community with memorable keynote speakers and calls to action. This year’s merger will prove to be the next great step to continuing to honor Dr. King through community collaboration and unity across Champaign County.

The MLK Countywide Committee and the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Advocacy for Justice Committee is looking forward to continuing to recognize the achievements of area youth and the commitment of community members, while also honoring the significant contributions to civil and human rights practiced by Dr. King. The MLK Countywide Committee is made up of the Cities of Champaign and Urbana, Parkland College, University of Illinois, Champaign County, and the Village of Rantoul.
