Police Investigating Attempted Robbery, Seek Public Assistance Identifying Suspect

On Wednesday, April 29, 2020, at approximately 5:25 a.m., Champaign Police were dispatched to the Circle K gas station in the 1300 block of South Mattis Avenue for the report of an attempted robbery.  Upon arrival, officers learned a male subject arrived on foot from the west, entered the business and demanded money from the clerk.  No money was obtained, and the suspect fled north on foot from the store.  No injuries were reported to Champaign Police, and no weapon was seen or implied.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 50 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing approximately 180 pounds. The suspect was wearing a dark stocking cap, a blue jacket, dark pants, a gray and white camouflaged mask, gray and white tennis shoes, and dark gloves.

Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to contact the police department.  It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance.
