CHAMPAIGN – The City of Champaign is proud to announce that for the 30th consecutive year it was awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). The most recent award is for the City’s Fiscal Year 2019/20 Annual Budget. This award demonstrates that the City’s adopted budget document is of the very highest quality, reflecting the guidelines and best practices established by GFOA and the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting. The City’s annual budget document was reviewed by selected members of GFOA professional staff and other experienced public-sector budgeting professionals from throughout the United States and Canada. Finance staff uses the feedback from these reviews to improve the budget document each year.
GFOA also presented a Certificate of Recognition for Budget Preparation to the department primarily responsible for preparing the award-winning Annual Budget – the City’s Finance Department Budget Team. The adopted Fiscal Year 2019/20 Annual Budget is available on the city’s website at champaignil.gov/budget.
