The Champaign Fire Department responded to the report of a bedroom on fire at 1308 Harris Avenue, Thursday, November 29, 2018 at 10:50 a.m. Upon arrival on the scene, fire crews found flames and heavy smoke coming from a window of the home.
A resident discovered the fire in the bedroom and called 9-1-1. Firefighters arrived on the scene and deployed a single hose line into the home to quickly extinguish the fire originating from the bedroom.
Two occupants of the home have been displaced because of this fire. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries reported. The cause of the fire remains undetermined as investigators continue their scene examination and witness interviews.
The Champaign Fire Department reminds all citizens to maintain a working smoke alarm in their place of residence and to have and practice a home escape plan. Smoke alarms can provide early notification when seconds count.
