The Champaign Fire Department and the Champaign Exchange Club will honor the 2016 Firefighter of the Year recipient, Captain Glen Daniels, on April 10. A ceremony will be held at O’Charley’s, 730 W. Town Center Blvd., from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.
Captain Daniels is a 26 year veteran of the Champaign Fire Department. In 2016 Captain Daniels was appointed as liaison to the Insurance Services Office (ISO) during the nearly yearlong process of preparation and presentation of the fire department’s data for the fire suppression rating schedule. Captain Daniels’ attention to detail and commitment to improving the department’s Public Protection Classification helped result in the department achieving the Class 1 Public Protection Classification, an honor shared by only 179 departments of the 48,632 evaluated nationwide.
