City of Champaign Celebrates Arbor Day

In honor of Arbor Day 2016, Public Works Forestry staff planted a tree with students from Edison Middle School on April 29. The planting took place along the west side of the school, on Prairie Street. The City of Champaign is celebrating its 31st anniversary as a member of the Tree City USA Program. Both the Arbor Day and the Tree City USA programs are run by the Arbor Day Foundation.

The Arbor Day foundation, a nonprofit conservation and education association, formed in 1972 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first Arbor Day, its mission is to inspire people to plant, celebrate, and nurture trees.
