The Illinois Department of Transportation announces that road work will resume on the Interstate 57/74 ramps on July 14, 2014. The work was pushed back a week due to equipment breakdowns. The ramps will once again be closed one ramp at a time for placement of the high friction surface course. To safely accommodate this work, a marked route detour will again be used, utilizing the remaining ramps, Interstate 57 and the Market Street (exit 240) and Curtis Road (exit 232) interchanges. Signs and changeable message boards will be used throughout the project to guide the travelling public. The tentative closure schedule is as follows:
7/14 – Ramp CB (I-74 EB to I-57 NB) will be closed. It will reopen later on the same day or the next morning. 7/15 – Ramp DB (I-74 WB to I-57 NB) will be closed. It will reopen late on the same day or the next morning. 7/15 – Ramp DA (I-74 WB to I-57 SB) will be closed if ramp DB is completed and able to be reopened. It will reopen late on the same day or the next morning. 7/16 – Ramp CA (I-74 EB to I-57 SB) will be closed. It will reopen late on the same day or the next morning. 7/16 – Ramp AC (I-57 NB to I-74 WB) will be closed if ramp CA is completed and able to be reopened. It will reopen late on the same day or the next morning. 7/17 – Ramp AD (I-57 NB to I-74 EB) will be closed. It will reopen late on the same day or the next morning. 7/17 – Ramp BD (I-57 SB to I-74 EB) will be closed if ramp AD is completed and able to be reopened. It will reopen late on the same day or the next morning. 7/18 – Ramp BC (I-57 SB to I-74 WB) will be closed. It will reopen late on the same day or the next morning.
Due to weather and other delays, this schedule may change. An e-mailed update will be sent when ramps are opened or closed just like what was done with the patching (to the media contacts and all others who receive the press releases). Please pay attention to the signs and message boards as they will have the most current information. The overall project has an anticipated completion date ofSeptember 4, 2014. The contractor for the $1,211,654 project is G.M. Sipes Construction.
Please slow down and use extreme caution while driving through all work zones.
