City of Champaign Launches SeeClickFix Mobile App

The City of Champaign Public Works Department is implementing new technology that will allow residents to submit requests for service through a mobile interface while they are out and about in the community. Powered by SeeClickFix, the place-based reporting platform allows residents to document problems ranging from graffiti to potholes within the City’s boundaries.

SeeClickFix allows citizens to report and monitor non-emergency issues. Requests reported through SeeClickFix can provide location, descriptive, and photographic information regarding the problems. Once the issue is documented with SeeClickFix, the reporting citizen, the Public Works Department, and anyone “watching” the area will receive a notification. The service request will be automatically forwarded and entered into the Public Works Department’s work order system. It will be routed to the appropriate Public Works section for response. Once the situation is resolved, the status will be updated and posted on SeeClickFix. Staff will monitor SeeClickFix service requests during normal business hours, which are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Public Works Director Dennis Schmidt said, “We’re excited to offer our residents another option for communicating concerns to Public Works. This will allow them to be our ‘eyes and ears’ so that we can be aware of and more quickly address issues.”

The application is free to the public. On mobile devices, SeeClickFix can be downloaded through the App Store on iPhones and Google Play on Android phones. In order to open an account, a person will need to provide a valid email address and set up a user name and password. For those without smart phones, the application is also available online and can be accessed at https://seeclickfix.com/register.

More information is available at www.seeclickfix.com. Detailed instructions will be available at the City’s website, https://champaignil.gov/pwd/report, beginning March 1.

A photo opportunity will be available at the Public Works Building, 702 Edgebrook Drive, from 10 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 1. City staff will be available to provide a demonstration of the application and answer questions.
