Champaign Police Investigating Two Overnight Shooting Incidents

Champaign Police are investigating two shooting incidents, including one homicide and one shooting with injuries, that occurred in the overnight hours of November 16 and 17, 2025. These incidents are being investigated separately, as Investigators have no indication at this time that they are related.

Homicide Investigation – 3700 Block of Colleen Drive

Champaign Police were dispatched to the 3700 block of Colleen Drive at 6:04 p.m. on November 16, following a report of a shooting with injuries. On-scene, officers found a 24-year-old Champaign man with multiple life-threatening injuries. Officers immediately initiated life-saving measures with assistance from medical personnel until the victim could be transported to an area hospital. There, he sadly succumbed to his injuries. Investigators have learned that the man was shot after he left his apartment.

Shooting with Injuries – 700 Block of N. Elm Street

Champaign Police responded to the 700 block of N. Elm Street at 2:35 a.m. on November 17, following a report of a shooting with injuries. On-scene, officers located a resident with multiple potentially-life-threatening injuries to the legs. Officers immediately rendered medical aid on-scene with assistance from medical personnel until the victim could be transported to an area hospital. They remain hospitalized in stable condition. The initial investigation indicates that the resident was answering a late-night knock at the door when someone opened fire and the person was struck.

Champaign Police Seek Community Assistance

Officers continue to canvass the surrounding areas of each incident for witnesses and video footage that may be of investigative assistance. Any resident or business in the nearby areas with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to notify the police department. No arrests have been made at this time, and the investigations remain ongoing. Future updates may be provided as they become available.
