Champaign Police Release Results from Labor Day Traffic Campaign

The Champaign Police Department conducted a traffic campaign to reduce impaired driving from August 15 to September 2, reminding motorists that sharing the road starts with safe choices. The enforcement effort was conducted by Champaign Police in partnership with the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Illinois State Police, and more than 200 local law enforcement agencies.

During the campaign, Champaign Police committed officers to 46 hours of dedicated enforcement with a focus on arterial routes, especially in areas where they impact neighborhoods. These efforts by Champaign Police yielded:

  • 2 arrests for Driving Under the Influence
  • 31 citations for speeding
  • 7 citations for driving without insurance
  • 5 citations for driving without a valid license
  • 1 citation for distracted driving
  • 12 citations for moving violations, including expired registration

The Labor Day traffic campaign was made possible by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
