The Champaign Fire Department responded to a working fire at 814 S. Fair St., Friday, March 3, 2023, at 5:27 p.m. A passerby called 911 reporting smoke coming from this location. Upon arrival on the scene, fire crews found smoke coming from the roof of this single family home. The house was unoccupied at the time of the fire. Crews found that a tree had fallen and damaged the weatherhead, causing a fire in the attic. Crews used multiple hose lines from a distance to contain the fire to the building of origin, waiting for the electricity to be shut off until they could go into the structure to fight the fire. Once inside firefighters quickly extinguished the remaining fire. Firefighters cleared the scene shortly after 8:00 p.m.
No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported.
