The Champaign and Urbana Fire Departments responded to a fire in a commercial office building in the 1800 block of S. Oak St., Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 12:08 p.m. Fire crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire.
Firefighters responded to a report from an occupant of a fire in this two-story office building. Once on the scene, crews reported a small fire contained to a battery that was being charged. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire using a fire extinguisher and relocate the battery outside. Crews were able to keep the fire contained to the item containing the battery.
The cause of this fire is accidental. There were no firefighter or occupant injuries reported.
