On Friday, August 15, 2025, Champaign firefighters participated in a hands-on drill simulating a chemical spill, conducted in partnership with the Norfolk Southern Safety Train.
The exercise was designed to reinforce skills and knowledge gained earlier in the week through classroom instruction, a railcar walkthrough, and a locomotive tour. The mock scenario allowed firefighters to apply their training in hazardous materials response in a realistic and controlled environment.
