Shine the Block: Oakwood Strong

On August 16, 2025, the community showed up strong for the folks at Oakwood Trace. First Followers lead the way in landscape and building clean up as well as the resource fair that followed with lots of treats to beat the heat advisory. Council Members Shauna Clayborn and Davion Williams, as well as Central High School SRO Brandon Walton (Champaign Police Department), HACC, RACES, members of Equity and Engagement, and John Ruffin (Neighborhood Services), were all in attendance and provided helping hands and resources, while DREAAM provided bookbags filled with Hygiene products for back to school.

Despite the heat index reading close to 110, Oakwood Trace and Wesley Park were Shining with a lot of community love. Clean Up efforts are hosted to bring community connection and a sense of neighborhood pride and belonging and this one was a wonderful success!
