Champaign Police Seek Assistance in Shooting Investigation – 4000 Block of Balmoral

Champaign Police were dispatched at 11:51 p.m. on July 24, 2025, to the 4000 block of Balmoral Drive following reports of a shooting with injuries. On-scene, officers quickly located a scene with indications of gunfire, including damage to multiple houses. As officers checked the area, a 19-year-old Champaign man arrived at a local hospital by personal transport and began receiving medical treatment for multiple gunshot wounds. The man’s injuries are not believed to be life threatening. He remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Initial information on this incident is very limited, even as officers interviewed the victim at the hospital. Reporting parties heard multiple shots fired in an exchange of gunfire, but those responsible for the shots remain unknown at this time. Investigators with the Champaign Police Crime Scene Unit remained in the area for several hours to conduct a thorough investigation, including processing physical evidence, seeking eyewitnesses to the incident, and gathering video of investigative significance. Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to notify the police department. No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is ongoing. Future updates may be provided as they become available.
