The Champaign Fire Department responded to a fire in a residence in the 600 block of English Creek Ct., Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at 2:34 p.m. Fire crews were able to quickly get the fire under control.
Firefighters responded to a report from an occupant of a fire in the single-family home. Once on the scene, crews reported light smoke coming from the front door of the two-story duplex. The occupants were outside when the fire department arrived. Firefighters deployed a single hose line into the residence and were able to extinguish the fire.
The cause of this fire was determined to be accidental and has been attributed to cooking. There were no firefighter injuries reported. One occupant was treated on scene and transported to a local hospital. Two dogs and one cat were rescued from the home.
Remember, when the smoke alarm sounds, get out and stay out. If you must escape through smoke, stay low to the ground. Try to close doors behind you as you leave, to help slow the spread of smoke and fire, and help others exit.
