On October 17-18, 2023, April Faulkner, Community Relations Specialist in the Equity and Engagement Department, attended the inaugural National Immigrant Integration and Citizenship Education (NIICE) Conference. This conference brought together immigration and citizenship leaders from around the county to share their experiences, work, and hopes moving forward . Attendees heard from the Task Force on New Americans and Naturalization Working Group with a panel on Federal agency integration & inclusion efforts. Among many other they hosted a panel centering the immigrant and refugee experience, citizenship data resources and using data to reach eligible populations, and connecting the dots–using integrated English literacy and civics education (IELCE) to promote civic literacy.
