The Champaign Fire Department responded to a working fire at 803 Richards Lane, Thursday, March 2nd, at 5:40 p.m. The fire was reported by the resident of the home. The fire was quickly and professionally extinguished.
Upon arrival, fire crews reported no smoke or flames showing, but when fire crews entered the home, they found active fire in the living room and heavy smoke conditions throughout the home. Several hose lines were quickly deployed to extinguish the fire while other fire crews vented the smoke from the home.
The cause of the fire has not been determined as investigators remain on the scene conducting their investigation. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries. The occupants of the home will be displaced because of the fire.
The Champaign Fire Department reminds all citizens to maintain working smoke alarms in their place of residence and to have and practice a home escape plan. Smoke alarms can provide early notification when seconds count.
