A Message Clarifying the Intent of the March 12, 2020 Emergency Order
The City of Champaign would like to clarify the intent of the emergency order issued by the City on Thursday, March 12, 2020.
As evidenced during today’s Special Emergency City Council Meeting, the order gives the City the flexibility to thoughtfully and responsibly take the appropriate actions to respond to any local emergency, including COVID-19. The goal of the ordinance is to maintain essential City services and only the provisions necessary to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of our community will be exercised.
The City will keep the public’s best interests in mind as we continue to work alongside public health officials and countywide leaders. We understand this is a challenging time but working collaboratively as a community is the best approach to combating this virus.
