The City of Champaign is very pleased to welcome the first residents now moving into their new homes in the Bristol Development. While work on parts of the development continue, some families started moving into finished homes on Saturday, February 15, 2020. The complete redevelopment of the former Bristol Place neighborhood is the result of more than 12 years of dedicated work and a unique public-private partnership between the City of Champaign, the Housing Authority of Champaign County, and the project developer – AHDVS, LLC. A grand opening celebration will be held during warmer temperatures later this spring.
The Bristol Development features all new infrastructure, including roads and sidewalks, as well as a mix of all new housing. The new development has 90 new housing units, including 64 single-family homes, 26 townhome units, and a community building. Bristol Development is located near the corner of Bradley Avenue and Market Street on the northern side of Champaign.
“I’m excited to welcome our residents into their new homes,” said Mayor Deborah Frank Feinen. “Along with City improvements to the Boneyard Creek North Branch and the Champaign Park District’s new Martens Community Center, we know this area will be a neighborhood of choice. The neighborhood will offer residents beautiful and affordable housing, park-like amenities, as well as recreational opportunities for all ages.”
Former Bristol Place residents who were displaced by the project and meet the development’s tenant selection criteria for lease approval were offered the first opportunity to return to the new neighborhood. The development was financed by the City of Champaign, Housing Authority of Champaign County, AHDVS, LLC, Illinois Housing Development Authority, National Equity Fund, US Bancorp Community Development Corporation, Cinnaire Bank, Bank of America, and Illinois Facilities Fund (IFF).
