The Champaign Fire Department responded to a working fire at 1904 Barberry Circle, Monday, February 25, 2019, at 11:55 a.m. Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire found in the tri-level home.
Firefighters responded to a report of a fire in the residence from the occupant that had returned home and discovered the fire. Once on the scene, crews reported heavy smoke coming from the home and a fire on the second floor. Firefighters extended hose lines and quickly extinguished the fire.
The cause of this fire is accidental and has been attributed to the electrical system of the home. The fire began above the lower-level bathroom of the home. One occupant of the home has been displaced because of this fire. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries reported.
The Champaign Fire Department reminds all citizens to maintain a working smoke alarm in their place of residence and to have and practice a home escape plan. Smoke alarms can provide early notification when seconds count.
