Champaign Fire held an event at Market Place Mall near the Food Court, on Monday, October 8, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Over 160 kids and their families took part in the event, which launched Fire Prevention Week 2018.
Kids and their families got to practice “Stop, drop, and roll” while firefighters reinforced the importance of what to do when someone’s clothes catch fire. Kids also helped identify dangers found around the home in a miniature safety house. Freddie the Firetruck sang along with the kids and stressed what to do if they found matches around the home. Finally, kids of all ages were able to take part in a touch-a-truck outside the Food Court and both sit inside the truck and look at the equipment used by firefighters.
