Rev. Dr. Martin King, Jr. Countywide Celebration Call for Nominations Coming Soon!
The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Countywide Celebration is scheduled for Friday, January 13, 2017 at Parkland College. The theme for the 2017 event is: “Out of the mountain of despair, a stone of hope.”
Each year, the Cities of Champaign and Urbana come together with Champaign County, Parkland College, and the University of Illinois to host a countywide celebration honoring the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. During the annual celebration, the community honors and celebrates individuals and organizations receiving one of three awards: James R. Burgess, Jr. – Susan Freiburg Humanitarian Award, Doris K. Wylie Hoskins Prestigious Community Service Award, and the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Outstanding Achievement Award. The Call for Nominations is coming soon, so please consider nominating someone you believe is deserving of an award in one of these categories.
New this year is a website dedicated to this event, as well as a Facebook event page, and a Twitter page. Community members will be able to submit nomination forms through the website, and going forward, the committee will be accepting nominations year-round.
