The redevelopment of the City parking lot located at 524 E. Green Street
(commonly referred to as Lot J) into a public parking garage, Marriott
TownePlace Suites, apartment units, and retail space will break ground by
May 1. The project, approved by City Council in February 2014, includes a
6-story hotel building along Green Street and a 6-story apartment building
along Sixth Street. The new 131- space public parking garage will be
constructed on Healey Street, just west of Sixth Street. The development
is slated to open in Summer 2015. In addition to the public parking garage,
the project includes ground floor retail space along Green Street and Sixth
Street and a continuation of the Boneyard Greenway through to Sixth
Street. The project also includes the reconstruction of Healey Street
between Fourth and Sixth Streets. Green Street and Sixth Street will
remain open to traffic during construction of the project.
To allow for the redevelopment, the existing Parking Lot J at 524 E. Green
Street/southwest corner of Healey Street and Sixth Street will close to the
public on April 16, 2014, at 6:00 p.m. Alternate public parking areas will
be available at 503 E. Healey Street, 508 E. Healey Street, and the
northeast corner of Springfield Avenue and Sixth Street. Metered parking
is also available along City streets and in the University parking lots A9
at the southeast corner of Sixth Street and Healey Street and C3 near the
southeast corner of Sixth Street and John Street. A map of parking
