    The City of Champaign relies upon the experience and expertise of our residents to help guide the ongoing development of our community.  Volunteering to serve on a Board or Commission is a great way to give back to your community.  The City currently has the following Board/Commission vacancies:

    • Plan Commission (1 opening)
    • Zoning Board of Appeals – Alternate Member (1 opening)
    • Subcommittee of the Human Relations Commission.  The City is seeking citizens to serve on a Human Relations Commission Subcommittee with the review of citizen complaints involving police.  The Subcommittee will determine whether an investigation is complete, ask questions and/or request additional information, and recommend whether the Chief of Police accepts or rejects the investigative findings. Applications accepted through August 31, 2017. (5 openings)
    • Internal Police Use of Force Review Committee.  The City seeks citizens who are interested in serving on the internal police department Use of Force Review Committee.  The Police Department utilizes this committee to review all officer use of force, regardless of whether a citizen complaint was filed. This Committee will be appointed by Police Chief Cobb. Applications accepted through August 31, 2017. (6 openings)

    If you’re interested in serving, download and return your completed application to the Mayor’s Office, 102 N Neil Street, Champaign.  The Mayor reviews applications and appoints qualified individuals to fill vacant positions on a regular, ongoing basis.  All Board and Commission appointments must also be approved by the City Council.
