Police Investigate Shooting in 1600 Block of Sheffield Road

On Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018, at approximately 7:57 p.m., Champaign Police responded to the 1600 block of Sheffield Road for reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, police learned an unknown number of suspects exchanged multiple rounds of gunfire outside of a residence, resulting in vehicle and property damage.

Following preliminary investigation, it was discovered a male victim was struck with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the arm. The victim, who left the scene before police were able to arrive, was located this morning (10/8), questioned and then transported to the hospital for treatment.

The same evening of Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018, at approximately 10:32 p.m., Urbana Police responded to the 1100 Block of North Goodwin for reports of shots fired into an occupied house. At this time, it is believed this incident may be related to the Champaign Sheffield Road shooting that occurred just hours prior. Both police departments are working together to confirm the motive and the involved individuals from both incidents.

The investigation into the shootings remains ongoing; however, police do not believe either was a random act of violence.
