The Champaign Fire Department has again modified its award-winning Fire Factor program to meet the needs of University of Illinois students in our community. Online learning modules from the Fire Factor curriculum have been updated and expanded and are now required for Greek Officers by the University of Illinois Office of the Dean of Students. A team of Fire & Life Safety Educators has also been trained to go into nearly 50 Fraternity and Sorority Houses to offer fire prevention classes along with an on-site fire drill. The team’s first two nights produced fire safety awareness training in 16 Private Certified Houses and were attended by nearly 750 students. Already, 3 houses with areas where the fire alarms could not be heard have been identified and referred to their respective fire alarm companies for correction.
