Police Investigate Shooting Incident at Market Place Shopping Center

Yesterday, at approximately 9:06 PM, Champaign Police Officers responded to Market Place Shopping Center, located at 2000 N. Neil St., after receiving reports of gunfire.

Preliminary investigations suggest that an argument took place within the mall, leading to one of the parties involved firing at least one gun round.  The individuals involved in the dispute left the premises before officers’ arrival. No victims have come forward or been identified at this time.

Information concerning this incident is being developed and police are interviewing potential witnesses.  Anyone who has information regarding the incident or was near the grounds of Market Place Shopping Center at the time of the shooting is encouraged to contact the Champaign Police Investigations Division at 217-351-4545.

Champaign Police reminds citizens that information submitted to Crime Stoppers is completely anonymous.  Calls are routed to a third-party national call center that receives your information, completes a tips information form, and then passes the information to the appropriate law enforcement agency. Caller ID tracking is not utilized by Crime Stoppers and conversations are not recorded.

Crime Stoppers will pay a reward up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for this crime.
