Champaign Fire Department Kicks Off Fire Prevention Week 2016

Champaign Fire Department kicked off Fire Prevention Week 2016 at Market Place Mall.  On Sunday, firefighters and staff were outside the Food Court hosting a Touch-A-Truck event so that over 300 kids of all ages could see a fire truck up-close.  Inside the mall were a “Hazard House Demo”, community outreach materials, and a special visit from Freddie the Fire Truck.  Visitors were also able to ask questions about this year’s theme “Don’t Wait – Check the Date”, which reinforces the idea that smoke alarms over 10 years old need to be replaced.

Throughout Fire Prevention Week, firefighters and staff were in Champaign Unit 4 Schools observing their fire evacuation drills.  Champaign Fire Department was able to provide feedback to administrators at the drill’s conclusion.
