Champaign Fire Department Awarded $1.3 Million SAFER Grant

The City of Champaign is proud to announce the Champaign Fire Department has been awarded a $1,322,828 SAFER (Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response) grant from the US Department of Homeland Security. Acceptance of the grant funds must first be approved by the City Council, and would be used to hire six additional firefighters over the next two years.

“The Champaign Fire Department is honored to be the recipient of this highly competitive federal grant,” said Fire Chief Gary Ludwig. “By adding to our ranks, our department will be even better prepared to respond to the needs of our community while also improving the safety of our dedicated firefighters.”
